We loved the quaint feel of our cabin when we purchased it and how it tied into the past so when we began our remodel it was important for us to keep the scale and charm of the past but update it with modern comfort, convienance and reliability. The whole cabin was essentially rebuilt, keeping only the framing for the upper story, everything else is new construction. With this approach we were able to add beams to the first floor living area, a new concrete foundation and slab floor with radiant heat and new first floor framing. In addition to the new surface treatments that you can clearly see, all of the electricity, plumbing, heating, windows, and roofing was completely replaced during our remodel. We also payed very close attention to insulation resulting in very low electricity and gas bills. Because this was a second home for us it was important for us to monitor and control the heat remotely, so we installed internet controls for the heater so we can turn it on the day before we arrive so the house is warm when we get there.
