Had us at hello
Our Tahoe dream cabin had us at hello. It was a cold and snowy February day when we stepped out of the driveway, up the steps to the deck and into the house. Despite the fact that the house was not heated when we walked in (we have since added a natural gas based heating system to supplement the lovely wood burning stove), we sat down and were transfixed by the coziness and possibilities. We had been looking at homes for several days but after just 45 minutes taking it all in, we went down to our Realtor?s office and made an offer. When we purchased the property we only envisioned a weekend getaway from our busy lives in Sonoma. A year or so later it became our fulltime residence. Over the course of the next few months we came to realize the treasure we had acquired. The snow gave way to a splendid spring that revealed a large side yard which we landscaped with trees, shrubs, grass, clover and flowers all that spring and summer. Having a double lot allowed us a lot of flexibility and privacy. We have a sloping back yard with a mix of trees and granite boulders providing a commanding view of the rest of the property along with another sloping side yard with its own natural beauty. One of the great things about the property is that it lends itself to outdoor entertaining for small groups on the front deck or a large group in the side yard, where we once hosted a dinner for 70 people. For us, the two magical features of the interior are the wood burning stove which we enjoy throughout the year and the upstairs bedroom suite, which, while simple in design, feels luxurious with its spaciousness and exposed wood beams. Particularly special to us is the feeling that we live in a beautiful forest yet are only a short walk to the lake with our private pier and a short ride to Tahoe City. Barely a day went by when one of us failed to remark how lucky and thankful we were to be able to live in this special place.
