Glenview
In the Oakland foothills, Glenview is a small residential neighborhood of less than 6,000 residents. The homes here are single-family bungalows dating from the 1920s and 30s.
Most of the businesses in Glenview are mom and pop shops and include a hardware store, organic grocery store and Glenview Flowers. The recent addition of highly rated restaurants such as Marzano and Bellanico is turning the area into Oakland’s "gourmet ghetto." These are located along the central spine of Park Boulevard, which offers great vistas of the bay. The Glenview Neighborhood Association and GlenFriends have adopted Park Boulevard, sponsoring a garden party planting of day lilies and carpet roses on the Park Boulevard median.
12-acre Dimond Park with oak and redwood trees runs along the southeastern boundary of Glenview. Amenities include tennis courts, picnic areas, play structures and outdoor Lions Pool.
Glenview Elementary School has been called a hidden gem of the Oakland School system, with strong parent involvement and an API score of 835. The PTA has also organized after school programs, including Sarah Science, Berkeley School of the Arts, Spanish, Recorder lessons (Chess, Oakland Youth Chorus, Rhythm Rocks, and Capoeira.
