North Oakland
Stretching from Telegraph Avenue to Martin Luther King Jr Way, North Oakland homes for sale exist in many sub-neighborhoods including Bushrod Park, Golden Gate, Longfellow, Piedmont Avenue, Rockridge, Santa Fe, Temescal, Fairview Park, Shafter, Gaskill, Paradise Park, and Mosswood.
North Oakland, an area rich in history, was originally given to Vincente Peralta by his father Don Luis Maria Peralta in 1842. Despite an 1853 Supreme Court ruling however, other European settlers forced the Peraltas off of their land and began several fruit and vegetable plantations across the East Bay. This later led to a number of industrial North Oakland canning and packing facilities. In fact, North Oakland was once the home to the world’s largest cannery, Josiah Lusk Canning Company, which stood at the corner of Claremonte Avenue and 51st Street.
Today, North Oakland real estate is in convenient proximity to the popular Jack London Square and Oakland’s Preservation Park. The Paramount Theater, Chabot Space & Science Center, and Children’s Fairyland also provide entertainment for people of any age or interest.
