North Oakland

North Oakland, an area rich in history, was originally given to Vincente Peralta by his father Don Luis Maria Peralta in 1842. This later led to a number of industrial North Oakland canning and packing facilities. In fact, North Oakland was once the home to the world’s largest cannery, Josiah Lusk Canning Company, which stood at the corner of Claremonte Avenue and 51st Street.
