El Sobrante is a small Bay Area town is located in Contra Costa County, approximately 20 miles from the heart of San Francisco. The name “El Sobrante” translates to “remaining land,” which is derived from the land grants, which were deeded in 1841. Tri-level homes built in the 1930s and fully renovated 1940s bungalows are just a couple of examples of the type of real estate you will find in El Sobrante. Additionally, the price per square foot of El Sobrante homes is as much as one-third lower compared to the Bay Area’s major metro areas. Residents of El Sobrante enjoy scenic mountain views, convenient access to beaches and public parks, and amazing local shops and restaurants. If you are looking for a scenic, peaceful town away from the crowded Bay Area cities, this is a remarkable place to call home. Pointe Pinole Regional Shoreline is a 2,300+ acre oceanside park located in nearby Richmond, California. The park is just a 15-minute drive from El Sobrante and features scenic ocean views and plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors. Horseback riding and bike riding are incredibly common at Pointe Pinole Regional Shoreline, but the true draw for the park is its fishing pier. Fishing at the pier does not require a license, and a shuttle bus provides convenient transportation. After a fun day of fishing and exploring this incredible shoreline, residents love to take in the incredible sunsets before heading back home. Most of El Sobrante’s retail stores can be found in the southwest section of town, near San Pablo, CA. Some of the notable shops/stores in El Sobrante include Walgreens, Thrift Town, Oliver’s Ace Hardware, and a Shell station. This area of El Sobrante is also where you will find some incredible local restaurants, including: Xinia’s Bakery: From Salvadorian cuisine to fresh-baked pastries and homemade sandwiches, this local bakery is nothing short of spectacular. Stop by anytime you’re craving a tasty piece of tres leches cake, or a fresh Pupusa. PJs Restaurant & Cocktails: This family-owned restaurant and dive bar has been pleasing locals and tourists for over 40 years. Featuring a tasty Italian menu, plus a daily fish catch special, this is the perfect laid-back date night hangout. Sam’s Dog House: Great service, incredible prices, and a wide selection of tasty hot dogs. These are just a few of the reasons why customers love eating at Sam’s Dog House. A great, local fast food option for the whole family. Even though El Sobrante is tucked away from the heart of Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco, public transportation is still available for its residents. AC Transit Route provides service to the Richmond BART Station, and from there, commuting is a breeze. Another great feature of El Sobrante is the convenient access to Interstate 80. Simply hop onto the highway, and you can be in San Francisco in less than an hour.
