Located on the Sacramento River Delta, Pittsburg is city of 63,000 with roots in the steel industry and waterfront shipping. Safe Routes to Schools programs provide kids with the opportunity to walk or bike to their neighborhood school. Weekly farmers markets are also a local favorite. The Pittsburg Marina provides 575 slips and numerous services that allow boat owners to care for their vessels. For golfers, the nearby championship Delta View Gold Club offers rolling hills, tree-lined fairways, and spectacular delta views with Mount Diablo in the background.
There are two-dozen small, community parks in Pittsburg, as well as: an aquatic swim center; bocce ball courts in Buchanan Park; and baseball, tennis, volleyball, and picnicking facilities. Old Town Pittsburg hosts Cinema Under the Stars, outdoor movie showings for the warm, fog-free summer nights. Other performing arts venues include the Creative Arts Building (home to the Pittsburg Community Theatre), the Los Medanos Collage Recital Hall, and the California Theatre, a renovated venue that stages theatre productions.
