What We Loved About Living Here
Nancy and I first saw 926 in the autumn of 2001 and immediately fell in love with the house – with its light and proportions and its wonderful potential.;;We always knew how very fortunate we were to call it home.;;Over the years, we appreciated its proximity to both public transportation and to freeways, the closeness of shopping and good restaurants, and the delightful parks that are only a short walk away.;;The spaciousness of the house made entertaining family and friends a joy, with plenty of room for overnight guests.;;But the best things about living in the house were the little moments – an impromptu dinner in the garden on a warm evening, sitting in front of a cozy fire on a winter night, or picking a few lemons from the tree Nancy planted on a spring afternoon.;;Sadly, the time to leave 926 has come, but my heart will be forever filled with the happiness I knew living in the beautiful house on Madrid Street.;

Excelsior runs along Mission Street, south of the 280 and north of Geneva Avenue. This neighborhood was once home to Grateful Dead singer/guitarist Jerry Garcia, and today hosts the annual "Jerry Day," drawing thousands of celebrants to John McLaren Park and the lovely Jerry Garcia Amphitheater. The Excelsior Festival, for the purpose of drawing people together in a family-friendly environment, pays homage to this neighborhood's cultural diversity. Another claim to fame is the filming of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, the award-winning 1967 movie. The Excelsior Playground boasts vivid murals along with the tennis courts and recreation center, and the 56-acre Crocker-Amazon Park offers basketball, tennis and bocce ball courts as well as baseball and soccer fields. Local businesses, such as the acclaimed Tortas Boos Voni eatery and the hip Broken Record Bar, sit comfortably alongside young families and old-time residents.
